Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating at House of Wellness

Food and body image are deeply personal — shaped by culture, trauma, identity, and emotion. Eating disorders are not choices or phases. They are serious mental health conditions that can affect every part of your life: physical, emotional, and social. At House of Wellness, we provide thoughtful, shame-free care for individuals across California who are struggling with food, body image, and control.

Dr. Maniar approaches eating concerns with warmth, curiosity, and clinical skill — never judgment. Whether you’re navigating a diagnosed eating disorder or struggling with disordered eating patterns that don’t fit into a neat box, you are welcome here.

Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia is characterized by intense fear of gaining weight, a distorted body image, and restrictive eating that leads to significant weight loss or nutritional deficiency. It’s not about vanity — it’s often a way to feel in control in the midst of emotional chaos. We provide support to help restore nourishment, self-trust, and emotional safety while working alongside your care team.

Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia involves cycles of binge eating followed by purging behaviors, such as vomiting, laxative use, or over-exercising. It is often fueled by deep shame, anxiety, and a painful relationship with control and self-image. Our approach supports you in breaking the cycle, regulating emotion, and rebuilding a compassionate relationship with your body.

Binge Eating Disorder

Binge Eating Disorder (BED) involves eating large amounts of food in a short time, often with feelings of loss of control, guilt, or distress — without compensatory purging behaviors. BED is not about lack of willpower. It’s often linked to emotional regulation, trauma, or unmet needs. We offer care that reduces shame and helps you develop new coping tools and self-awareness.

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

ARFID is not driven by body image concerns, but rather by extreme avoidance of certain foods due to sensory sensitivities, fear of choking, or past negative experiences with eating. It can lead to nutritional deficiencies, social disruption, or anxiety around food. We take your concerns seriously and support you with gentleness and clinical guidance.

Pica

Pica involves eating non-food substances — such as paper, dirt, or soap — and is most often rooted in nutritional deficiencies, stress, or neurodivergence. While often misunderstood, it deserves compassionate care and thoughtful evaluation. We help explore the emotional and physical contributors without shame or blame.

Rumination Disorder

This lesser-known disorder involves repeated regurgitation, re-chewing, or re-swallowing of food. It may develop due to stress, trauma, or neurobiological factors. If you or a loved one are struggling with this, we offer calm, medically informed support and coordination with specialists when needed.

Purging Disorder

Purging disorder involves recurrent purging (such as vomiting or laxatives) in the absence of binge eating. It is a serious, harmful behavior that can lead to severe medical complications — even when it’s not tied to large amounts of food intake. We provide care that addresses both the physical risks and the emotional pain beneath the behavior.

Night Eating Syndrome

This condition involves delayed eating patterns — such as consuming large amounts of food late at night or waking up to eat — and is often linked to sleep disturbances, stress, and mood disorders. It’s not just a “bad habit.” We help you understand the root causes and work toward restoring a healthier relationship with food and rest.
