Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) at House of Wellness

You are not your thoughts — and you are not alone.

OCD is often misunderstood, minimized, or portrayed inaccurately. But if you’re living with OCD, you know it can be consuming, exhausting, and deeply isolating. It’s not about being “neat” or “quirky.” It’s about intrusive, unwanted thoughts and the urgent need to neutralize them through compulsive behaviors or mental rituals.

At House of Wellness, we see you — and we take your experience seriously. Dr. Maniar provides compassionate, evidence-based support for individuals across California navigating the challenges of OCD. We create a judgment-free space where healing begins with understanding.

What Is OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by two key features:

Obsessions — Intrusive, persistent thoughts, images, or urges that cause anxiety or distress.
Compulsions — Repetitive behaviors or mental acts aimed at reducing the distress caused by obsessions.

This cycle can be incredibly disruptive and painful. Common themes include fears around contamination, harm, morality, health, religion, or a need for symmetry — but OCD can attach to anything.

Common Signs of OCD

Repeated handwashing, checking, or arranging
Intrusive thoughts you feel ashamed of
Mental rituals (e.g., counting, reviewing conversations, praying)
Avoidance of people, places, or situations
A feeling that something “bad” will happen unless a ritual is performed
Significant anxiety when things feel “off” or uncertain

You may know your thoughts are irrational — and still feel powerless to stop the cycle. That’s the nature of OCD. It’s not your fault, and it’s not something you can “just get over.”
